Honouring Mothers & Standing Against Family Violence

6 May by Tanya Chiera

This Mother’s Day, we take a moment to recognise and honour all mothers and carers, and the important roles they play in our lives and our community.

While this day is often one of celebration, it’s also important to acknowledge that for many, Mother’s Day can be a difficult time — particularly for those impacted by family violence. It reminds us of the importance of recognising, addressing, and preventing family violence in all its forms.

We also take this opportunity to remember and honour Rachel McKenna — a proud and passionate member of the Moonee Valley Football Club, and above all, a devoted and loving mother whose life was tragically taken in January 2025.

As a club, we stand united in raising awareness and supporting those affected.

All funds raised through our Mother’s Day Raffle will be donated to GenWest — a vital organisation supporting victim-survivors of family violence in our local community.

We encourage all members and supporters to get behind this important cause. There are some fantastic prizes on offer.

Family violence affects individuals, families, and communities — and we all have a role to play in preventing it. Whether it’s through raising awareness, supporting local services, educating young people about respectful relationships, recognising the warning signs, or speaking up when something isn’t right — every action matters.
