While this day is often one of celebration, it’s also important to acknowledge that for many, Mother’s Day can be a difficult time — particularly for those impacted by family violence. It reminds us of the importance of recognising, addressing, and preventing family violence in all its forms.
We also take this opportunity to remember and honour Rachel McKenna — a proud and passionate member of the Moonee Valley Football Club, and above all, a devoted and loving mother whose life was tragically taken in January 2025. As a club, we stand united in raising awareness and supporting those affected. All funds raised through our Mother’s Day Raffle on Friday will be donated to GenWest — a vital organisation supporting victim-survivors of family violence in our local community. We encourage all members and supporters to get behind this important cause. There are some fantastic prizes on offer:
6:30 draw: Meat trays and fruit & veg box
7:15 draw:
- 3x Mother's Day hampers from The Empathy Gift Company
- $100 voucher for Latin Quarters Taqueria in Moonee Ponds
- Bottle of Champagne
- Cadbury hamper
Family violence affects individuals, families, and communities — and we all have a role to play in preventing it. Whether it’s through raising awareness, supporting local services, educating young people about respectful relationships, recognising the warning signs, or speaking up when something isn’t right — every action matters. If you wish to make a donation directly to GenWest, please use the link below and include “MVFC” as your reference:

We’d love to see as many MVFC faces as possible down at Princes Park to cheer us on and hopefully some juniors could even join our eight runners, even if it’s just for 50m — glow sticks provided!

However, there was some disappointing and disrespectful behaviour with a number of people parking in places that created safety risks for our community.
A reminder again, please take care to park only in allocated car spaces. We have had instances of cars being parked over the pedestrian crossing near the back of the club rooms and in front of the emergency vehicle access gate near the cricket nets on the small oval.
